CAF Confederation Cup chooses second preliminary round attendees.
The race to succeed CAF Confederations Cup holders, Raja Casablanca, evolved past the first round preliminaries this weekend after the second leg matches of the competition. It would be recalled that Raja Casablanca defeated JS Kabylie 2-1 at the Stade de l’Amitié in Cotonou, Benin on 10 July 2021 to win their second CAF Confederation Cup title. The following eleven teams still in contention to sit on the throne qualified for the second preliminary round slated for next month as follow:
AS FAR of Morocco go through on a 3-1 aggregate after a 1-3 and then 0-0 with Buffles Borgou of Benin Republic.
Diambars of Senegal trounced Wakriya of Guinea 3-0, qualifying on a one-match playoff.
Although Azam of Tanzania won away against Horseed of Somalia 0-1, the latter got a ride to the next round on a 4-1 aggregate following their 1-3 first leg win.
Al Ahly Merowe of Sudan qualified on a 4-0 aggregate after defeating Atlabara of South Sudan on identical 2-0 scores.
Diables Noirs of Congo Republic defeated Bumamuru of Burundi 1-0 in their second leg game after both teams had played to a 0-0 in the first leg game in Bujumbura.
Marumo Gallants of South Africa emerged from their 1-2 defeat away to Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea to prevail at base 3-0; and so qualified on a 4-2 aggregate.
Red Arrows of Zambia consolidated their 2-1 victory at base during the first leg match against Young Buffaloes of Eswatini to sail through after a 0-0 second leg situation.
US Ben Guerdana of Tunisia qualified on a 3-2 aggregate. Although the Tunisians lost the second leg 0-1, they had defeated AS Police of Niger Republic 3-1 in the first leg match.
In a post-match shootout in Gabarone, local side, Orapa United of Botswana overtook Mangasport of Gabon 3-2 after both sides had played to identical 0-0 scores on both legs.
In the heaviest scores of the phase, AS Kigali of Rwanda devastated Olympique Missiri-Sima of Comoros 6-0. The first leg had registered a Rwandese victory of 2-1.
And Biashara United of Tanzania made it through to the next round on a 3-0 aggregate after defeating Dikhil of Djibouti 1-0 in the first leg and then 2-0 in the second.
