IFFHS statistics on Champions’ League group stage round 6 (December 8)
*For the first time in Champions’ League history, multiple clubs ended a group stage winning all 6 matches (Bayern, Ajax, Liverpool). Previously, there were only 7 such cases, not more than one in a season: Milan (1992-93), PSG (1994-95), Spartak Moscow (1995-96), Barcelona (2002-03), Real Madrid (2011-12 and 2014-15), Bayern (2019-20).
*Salzburg became the first Austrian club in the history of Champions League to reach the playoffs of the tournament.
*Barcelona failed to progress from the CL group stage for the first time since 2000-01. In general, this is Barça's 4th elimination in its 29 appearances in the Champions’ League group stages. Never “blaugrana” ended a group stage with so miserable number of goals scored (2).
*Barça are going to play in the 2nd European competition (UEFA Cup/Europa League) for the first time since 2003-04 season. This is 2nd longest such break among the big clubs. Only Real Madrid didn’t play there for a longer time (since 1994-95).
*Manchester United have featured 6 teenagers in the game vs Young Boys (1-1). It’s only 5th case in the whole CL history with so many teenagers in a team taking part in a match.
*Thomas Müller (Bayern) who scored vs Barcelona (3-0) became the 8th player overall and the first German to score 50+ Champions League goals.
*It was Thomas Müller’s 8th goal scored against Barcelona. There are no other players Barcelona suffered as often from.
