Chelsea, European Vice Champion of 2021, knocked out of the Champions League in the Group A yesterday ! Wolfsburg needed to beat the Blues by more than two goals to progress through the quarter finals of the competition, the german were powerful, scoring 4 goals and joining Juventus for the Qualification ! Juve made a great performance between the two favorites, Chelsea and Wolfsburg, double winner of the UEFA Champions League (2013,2014).
What a serie for Paris SG in the Group B ! Six games, 6 wins, 25 goals scored without any conceded ! Marie Antoinette Katoto and her teammates dominated the Group before Real Madrid, entering in the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time in History ! The two teams qualify for the quarter finals, Ukraine’s Zhytlobud and Iceland’s Breidablik had no chance to change anything.
Winner of the last edition, FC Barcelona dominated sovereign the Group C with 6 wins in 6 matches, 24 goals scored and only 1 conceded. Alexia Putellas, IFFHS World’s Best player and BALLON D’OR 2021, leaded his team with class, being also the best Goalscorer (5). Arsenal London (2 defeats , 8 goals conceded against Barcelona) was the lucky second qualifier of the Group, due to the goal average (+1) better than Germany’s TSV Hoffenheim (-4).
Olympique Lyon, winner of 7 UEFA Champions League in the 10 last years, won the Group D with 5 wins in 6 matches (19 goals scored, 2 conceded) ! With coach Sonia Bompastor, OL became again, after one difficult year ,one of the favorites of the competition . Ada Hegerberg is back after 18 months injuries, she has already scored 3 goals, being the Best Goal Scorer in the History of the UEFA Champions League (56 goals in 56 matches !). FC Bayern München confirmed his great performances of the last months and took the second place for the Qualification. Lea Schueller, the Goalgetter and her teammates impressed in beating Lyon for the first time. Benfica and Häcken played good games but not enough to win.
The Quarter finals will be held in March , the semi finals in April and the final on Mai, 22 at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
