Copa America, known until 1975 as the South American Championship, is the oldest international continental football competition and determines the Champion of South America.
8 of the 10 CONMEBOL national teams (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile) have already won the tournament at least once in its 45 editions since the event’s inauguration in 1916. Only Ecuador and Venezuela wait for their first winning tournament.
The IFFHS has made a great work to search all the results and statistics of the first years of the Copa America. So she has established the statistics of the first years of the Copa America (1916 – 1930) with the records of the competition. In this time, Uruguay (1916, 17,20, 23, 24 and 26), Argentina (1921,25,27 and 29) and Brazil (1919,22) won the 12 first editions of the America Cup. The competition stopped then until 1935.
