*The penalty shootouts after the game Croatia vs Japan (1-1) became the 6th in a row at the World Cup that have been won by the side shooting second.
*Croatia have won their third World Cup penalty shootouts in a row (after those vs Denmark and Russia in 2018), while Japan have lost their 2nd from 2 attempts in the competition overall (the only previous was vs Paraguay in 2010).
*Croatia’s 7 of last 8 playoff games in major tournaments (World Cup, Euro) have gone to extra time; the only exception was the 2018 World Cup final vs France.
