UEFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINALS
Barcelona and Arsenal, the first two semi finalists !
1 - FC Barcelona booked their place in the women's Champions League semi-finals with a comfortable 5-1 pasting of AS Roma, qualifying 6-1 on aggregate. Salma Paralluelo's first leg lead gave the Catalans, who finished second to Lyon last season, a narrow advantage but they amplified it comfortably at Camp Nou before a crowd of 54667 spectators. Fridolina Rolfo netted twice in the first half, either side of a Mapi Leon piledriver to give Barcelona a nice cushion. Asisat Oshaola and Patri Guijarro added further goals after the break, and Annamaria Serturini nabbed a consolation for the visitors. Bolstered by the news Alexia Putellas could soon return from her long injury lay-off, Barcelona will now wait to see which of Chelsea or Lyon they will face in the semi-finals as they bid to win the trophy for the first time since 2021.
2 - Arsenal overturned a one-goal deficit to book a place in the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2013 after goals from Frida Maanum and Stina Blackstenius inspired a great 2-0 win over Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium. The Bundesliga leaders, on a 14-game winning streak, held a 1-0 first-leg lead over the Gunners thanks to a Lea Schuller header, but the resurgent Londoners delivered a far more ruthless and clinical display on home turf, scoring twice within the first 26 minutes. Maanum opened the scoring by firing a rocket into the top left hand corner of Maria-Luisa Grohs' net, teed up by an instinctive Leah Williamson flick, before a determined Katie McCabe beat her defender and dinked a cross towards Blackstenius to finish with a towering header in the first 25 minutes. The game was over.
