Will Manchester City make a treble?
The main trophy of the European club season will be disputed tonight in Istanbul; Manchester City vs Inter meet in the Champions League final (what is their first ever official meeting).
Pep Guardiola's team dreams of a treble: wins in all three major tournaments of the season. They have already pocketed first two, the Premier League and the FA Cup. It remains to take the last step.
If Manchester City do it, they will repeat the 1998-99 achievement of Manchester United, so far the only English club that managed to treble.
Overall, there are 19 such cases in the world football history, 14 in Europe and 5 in Africa.
In 14 cases, the continental trophy in consideration was the main one (Champions’ Cup/League), in the remaining 5 cases (which can be defined as “small trebles”) the 2nd by importance, UEFA Cup/Europa League (these cases are marked in grey in the table).
Bayern, Barcelona and Al Ahly managed to make a treble twice; Porto made two “small trebles”.
