Luis Romo: 3rd fastest goal in Gold Cup history
The Mexican national team started their performance at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a large victory over Honduras (4-0). And their striker Luis Romo opened the score already 49 seconds after kick-off.
This is the new fastest goal for Mexico in Gold Cup. Previously, the earliest was that scored by Uriel Antuna on 15 June 2019 (1 minute 57 seconds vs Cuba).
In the historical ranking of Gold Cup, Romo’s goal is the third fastest overall and the second not counting a qualification stage.
Nahki Wells (Bermuda) is absolute record holder with his goal after 17 seconds.
Shaq Moore (USA) takes the record for main stage of the competition, after 20 seconds vs Canada in 2021; curiously, this is still his only goal for his national team.
