FACTS AND STATS

 

-       Two goals from Usme and Caicedo lifted Colombia to an easy win over South korea in their opening game before an important crowd !

-       Linda Caicedo (born in 2005), crowned as IFFHS World’s Best Youth Player (U20) in 2022, played in Australia her THIRD WORLD CUP in ONE YEAR ! After the U20 World Cup in August 2022 and the U17 World Cup in October, where she scored for Colombia, she scored already in the first match with the senior team today !

-       Catalina Usme, already scoring in 2015 one of the 3 Colombian goals, converted a penalty to increase her all time scoring leader for Colombia to 39 goals.

-       Aged just 16 years and 26 days, Casey Phair has become the youngest player in FIFA Women’s World Cup History after coming off the bench for South korea.

-       The two teams were qualified for the World Cup due to their vice-champions title in South america and in Asia.

-       It is the third World Cup for South Korea, with now 5 connsecutive defeats. For Colombia, it is also the third World Cup and only the second success in History !

Sky Stadium, Wellington. 32 357 spectators. Half time : 0-1. Referee : Katia Itzel Garcia Mendoza (Mexico). Goal for Philippines : Sarina Bolden (24’).

 

FACTS AND STATS 

 

-       The Philippines became the first of the 8 debutant nations to win at the 2023 World Cup as Sarina Bolden’s goal damaged New Zealand’s qualification hopes.

-       Sarina Bolden made History ! She is the first player of Philippines (men and women) to score in a World Cup !

-       Hannah Wilkinson has beaten a record last week, becoming the first player of New Zealand (men and women) to score at 3 World Cups (2011, 2015, 2023). And she is only 31 !

-       Jaclyn Sawicki run the most long distance (12,03 km) at the game against Switzerland. Today, the Philippines midfielder was again impressive !

-       New Zealand had the biggest crowd ever for a football game (men and women) and the biggest TV audience for over 20 years

 

 

18 -  SWITZERLAND – NORWAY   0-0          (GROUP A)

FACTS AND STATS

 

-       There was nothing to separate Switzerland and Norway, as the pair played out a draw that leaves all four teams in the mix to secure a ko spot !

-       Norway’s goalgetter Ada Hegerberg pulled out the starting 11 one minute before kick off due to illness ! Sophie Roman Haug replaced her.

-       Norway joined the KO round 7 times in 8 World Cups ! This time it will be more difficult with one point after two games.

-       It was the 5th meeting between the two teams since 2013. Switzerland won 2, Norway 1 and now two draws.

-       Norway won only 2 of their last 11 games ! Coach Hege Riise, in place since last year, didn’t find the solution to wake up the team.

-       Gaelle Thalmann, Switzerland’s Goalkeeper, has already 107 international caps since 2007 and plays her second World Cup after 2015.
