NEW RECORD FOR LAMINE YAMAL
Yamal, now also youngest scorer in La Liga
Once again, Barcelona crack Lamine Yamal re-writes the record books. In addition to multiple age records he already established, he has become the youngest player to score in a La Liga match in the history of the competition.
At 16 years and 87 days, Yamal scored vs Granada on 8 October surpassing Fabrice Olinga whose record (16 years 98 days) stood since 2012.
Remarkably, it came in the very last moment. Yamal only had 11 days to break the record. With an international break coming up, this was his last chance to do it.
Five players in the La Liga history managed to score being younger than 17, all in XXI century. Two of them, Iker Muniain and Ansu Fati, found the net in 2 different games before turning 17.
Within last weeks, Yamal inscribed himself in record books as the youngest scorer in three categories: for his national team (Spain), in European championships (qualification and finals), in Spanish top division.
What he is missing yet, to become the youngest scorer in the Champions League. But he has enough space for this, even considering the era of European Cup (since 1955). Włodzimierz Lubański holds this record as long as 60 years (he scored in 1963 at the age of 16 years 258 days).
