Statistics on Champions’ League group stage round 3 (October 25)
*In the game Young Boys vs Manchester City (1-3), Erling Haaland has finally ended his longest run without scoring in UCL which included 5 full games and 543 minutes in total.
He didn’t net in the competition since April (vs Bayern).
*Prior to his first goal vs Young Boys, from penalty, Haaland wasn’t a scorer of anyone of 13 consecutive goals of Manchester City in UCL (and assisted to only one of them).
In his previous career in Champions League, Haaland never held more than 2 games in a row without scoring.
*Milan started this Champions League season with 3 consecutive games without scoring a single goal for the first time ever.
The “Rossoneri” are just the 2nd team in the Champions League history who failed to score in the first 3 games of the group stage being the semi-finalists of the previous season, after Deportivo in 2004-05.
*For the first time ever, Milan didn’t field a single Italian player in the starting lineup for a European competitions match (but this already occurred in Serie A).
*Marc Guiu became in the game vs Shakhtar (2-1) the 11th player under the age of 18 to make his Champions League debut with Barcelona (after Nano, Messi, Bojan Krkic, Deulofeu, Adama, Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi, Balde, Lamine Yamal).
No other club in UCL history has debuted so many U-18 players. The next are Arsenal (8), Anderlecht and Bayern (6 each).
*Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), in the game vs Celtic (2-2), took advantage of the rejection of a penalty that he himself had missed to score.
Such an event last happened in UCL on 15 February 2017 (Alexis Sánchez, for Arsenal vs Bayern).
*Griezmann missed already 4 penalties in UCL (of 8 attempts), the same amount as Ruud van Nistelrooy (of 14) and Sergio Agüero (from 15).
Only 2 players missed more penalties, Thierry Henry (5 of 8) and Lionel Messi (5 of 23).
*Luis Palma (Celtic) became just the 2nd Honduran player to score in UCL (after Andy Najar, for Anderlecht in 2014 vs Arsenal) and the 3rd to do it including the European Cup era (where José Cardona scored for Atlético in 1966 vs Malmö).
*Marko Stamenic (RB Leipzig) became, in the game vs Red Star (3-1), the New Zealander to score in UCL since 1993 (when Wynton Rufer scored for Werder 4 goals).
*Newcastle suffered a home defeat (vs Borussia Dortmund 0-1) in a major European competition match for the first time since March 2003 (against Barcelona). Between these losses, they were unbeaten at home in 24 games in a row (19 wins, 5 draws).
