Statistics on 2023 Copa Libertadores final Boca Juniors vs Fluminense 1-2 (Maracanã stadium, Rio de Janeiro)

*Fluminense won the most prestigious club competition of South America for the first time in their history. They became the first “new” champion of the Libertadores since 2014 (San Lorenzo). 
Between 2015 and 2022, only those clubs were triumphant who already won the tournament in the past.

*Brazil is the first country to win the Copa Libertadores 5 consecutive years (Flamengo 2019, Palmeiras 2000 and 2001, Flamengo 2022, Fluminense 2023).

*Fluminense became the 11th Brazilian team to win Copa Libertadores, along with Flamengo, Grêmio, Palmeiras, Santos, São Paulo (3 for each), Cruzeiro, Internacional (2), Atlético Mineiro, Corinthians, Vasco da Gama (1).
Botafogo-RJ remains the only grand still waiting for this success.

*Boca failed to break the losing streak of Argentine teams in Copa Libertadores finals against Brazilian rivals; it’s 4th in a row, after Boca themselves being defeated by Corinthians in 2012, Lanús by Grêmio in 2017 and River Plate by Flamengo in 2019.

*Boca Juniors have gone 7 last games of the 2023 edition without winning (6 draws, 1 loss): their longest streak in the history of the competition. Even so, they became runner-ups!

*Boca surpassed Peñarol as the club with the most lost Copa Libertadores finals (6 against 5).

*Boca surpassed River Plate as the team with the most goals conceded in extra time in Copa Libertadores finals (3 against 2)

*Felipe Melo (Fluminense) became the Brazilian player with the most Libertadores titles (3). He has already been crowned with Palmeiras in the 2020 and 2021 editions.

*Luis Advíncula (Boca) is the 3rd Peruvian player to score in a Copa Libertadores final, after Juan Joya (Peñarol, scored 1 goal in 1965 and 1 in 1966) and Percy Rojas (1 with Universitario in 1972 and 1 with Independiente in 1975).

*Advíncula became the first non-Argentine player to score with a Boca Juniors shirt in a Copa Libertadores final.
Of total Boca's 27 goals in these finals, 25 previous were scored by Argentine players and 1 was an own goal from a Brazilian rival (Patrício, in 2007 vs Grêmio).

*John Kennedy (Fluminense) was sent off just after scoring the 2-1 winner for Copa Libertadores. He is the third player in the history of Libertadores finals to score and get a red card, after Tinga (Internacional, against Sao Paulo in 2006) and Gabriel Barbosa (Boca, against River Plate in 2019).

*Two players have been sent off in extra time (also Fabra from Boca Juniors) in a Copa Libertadores final for the first time since 1988 (Héctor Morán of Nacional and Jorge Pautasso of Newell's Old Boys).

*Keno (Fluminense) became the first player with 2 assists in a Copa Libertadores final match since Marcelo Barticciotto (Colo Colo, against Olimpia, in the second leg of 1991 final).
