BRAZIL'S NEGATIVE RECORDS

Brazil collected negative records in 2023
*Brazil (0-1 vs Argentina) have lost a World Cup qualifying match at home for the first time in their history.
Their unbeaten streak at home lasted since the debut game vs Chile (1-0) on 14 March 1954. It consisted of 64 games (51 wins and 13 draws).
*Yet at the beginning of last year, there were 3 nations that kept unbeaten record in home World Cup qualifiers. Italy broke it with a 24 March 2022 loss vs Macedonia; now also Brazil finally failed.
Spain remain now the only team still never losing home World Cup qualifiers.
*The qualifying tournament has barely begun, and Brazil are already on a three-game losing streak (also vs Uruguay and Colombia). Previously, they had not even lost 2 matches in a row!
*Brazil need to add another defeat to equal their worst ever streak of 4 defeats in 2001:
7 June 2001, vs France 1-2 in Confederations Cup;
9 June 2001, vs Australia 0-1 in Confederations Cup;
1 July 2001 vs Uruguay 0-1 in World Cup qualification;
12 July 2001 vs Mexico 0-1 in Copa América.
Note that Brazil's next rivals are England at Wembley and Spain at Santiago Bernabéu. So, quite realistic for them is to equal or even surpass their negative record.
*Adding a draw vs Venezuela (1-1) that preceded the losing series, Brazil have now 4 consecutive games without winning in qualifiers.
This also happened for the first time in their history.
*Joelinton became the 7th Brazilian player sent off at home in a qualifier, after Zico (1977), Walter Casagrande (1985), Dunga (1993), Lucio (2005), Felipe Melo (2009) and Miranda (2009).
*Brazil have ended the 2023 year calendar with a balance of 3 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses in 9 games.
For the first time in the whole history, Brazil have lost more than half of games (56 percent) of a year.
Their previous worst marks were 44 percent of lost matches in 1963 (8 out of 18) and 40 percent in 2001 (8 out of 20).
*Curiously, the worst ever year for Brazil has coincided with the worst year for Germany (3 wins, 2 draws, 6 defeats in 11 games).
It was the most terrible year for both major powers in world football!
