Statistics on Champions’ League group stage round 5 (November 28)
*Manchester City won a Champions League game (vs RB Leipzig 3-2) after being 2 goals down at half-time for the first time in their history, having lost in all 6 such occasions before.
*Erling Haaland scored his already 12th goal against RB Leipzig in all competitions; at least 5 more than against any other opposition in his senior career.
*It was also Haaland’s 40th Champions League goal (in just 35 appearances) and 50th in all competitions for club and country in 2023 (he is the first player to reach this mark).
*Diego Simeone has held (vs Feyenoord 3-1) his 100th game in Champions League; he is 12th coach in the history of tournament to reach this milestone and just 3rd to do it with the same club (Atlético Madrid), along with Alex Ferguson (190 with Manchester United) and Arsène Wenger (177 with Arsenal).
In 100 games under Simeone, Atlético won 48 times, tied 27 and lost 25.
*Atlético have scored 15 goals in 5 games in the UCL this season, equalling their best scoring record in a single group stage of the competition, the 15 achieved in 2013/14 (when they finished as runners-up).
*Feyenoord is the first team with 2 own goals in the same Champions League match (Geertruida, Gimenez) since it happened to Chelsea on 5 November 2019 against Ajax (own goals by Kepa and Abraham).
*The game Milan vs Borussia Dortmund (1-3) became just 2nd in the UCL history with 2 penalties assigned in the first 10 minutes (Giroud missed at the 6th minute, Reus scored at 10th).
The first such game was the UCL final in 2001 Valencia vs Bayern (Mendieta scored at 3rd, Scholl missed at 7th).
*PSG conceded 5+ goals against the same opponent (vs Newcastle, 1-4 and now 1-1) in a single Champions League group stage for the first time since 2014-15 against Barcelona (also 5).
*Pepe (Porto) and Yamal (Barcelona) have played against each other with age difference of 24 years and 137 days between them.
This is 2nd largest difference in UCL history, after that between Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) and Pedri (Barcelona), 24 years and 301 days, in the game on 8 December 2020.
*Pepe, aged 40 years 275 days, entered top 5 of oldest players in UCL history, surpassing Allan McGregor (40 years 274 days).
All 4 players who are now ahead of Pepe in the ranking of oldest players are goalkeepers.
