Rodri beat Maldini & Albertini’s record and faces Campbell’s one
Manchester City's game in the last round of the Premier League (3-1 vs West Ham) was the 74th in a row in all club competitions in which Rodri managed to avoid defeat.
Thus, the Spanish midfielder broke the world record (73 games), held jointly by two Italians, Paolo Maldini and Demetrio Albertini, that stood since 1993.
However, Rodri has not yet broken another record — for the longest unbeaten streak only in the English league.
This record is still held by Sol Campbell, who went 56 league games undefeated for Arsenal over almost two years between 2002 and 2004.
Rodri finished the season 2023-24 having 50 lossless league games at his tally and becoming the second player in the league history to reach this mark. Campbell’s record will be his challenge for the next season.
Here we publish a list of the longest individual streaks in English League history. Most of the players there come from Arsenal, which went record 49 straight unbeaten league matches in 2003-04. (Campbell even managed to exceed the team mark thanks to his lucky escape from the losing match).
By the way, Rodri avoided participation in matches where Manchester City lost 4 times during his series. A lucky talisman!
