Kendry Páez, youngest scorer in Copa America in XXI century
*The Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Páez became the youngest player (aged 17 years 53 days) to score a Copa América match in the XXI century. He achieved it convering a penalty in the game vs Jamaica (3-1) on 27 June.
In the historical ranking of the competition, he is behind the Colombian Johnnier Montaño who scored against Argentina on 4 July 1999 at the age of just 16 and 171 days.
In total, Kendry is one of 4 confirmed players under 18 years to score in the history of competition.
(There are two other players from way back who could make this list, Mario Alborta (Bolivia) and Óscar Gómez Sánchez (Peru). But their exact age of goal scoring is not certain because there are different versions of their date of birth).
*Páez, a starter in both Ecuador games so far, is also the first player aged 18 or younger to start multiple matches in the same edition of CopaAmérica since Takefusa Kubo for Japan in 2019 (2 games as a starter).
*Finally, Páez became the youngest ever player to score a penalty goal in the history of the Copa América.
Curiously, both players who follow him in this ranking are also Ecuadorian:
Erwin Ramírez (19 years 242 days) in 1991,
Jorge Larraz (19 years 329 days) in 1957.
