IFFHS – THE WORLD’S BEST GOALKEEPER 1994 : MICHEL PREUDHOMME (BELGIUM) 

PRESENTATION  

Michel Preudhomme, born on 24 January 1959 in Ougrée (Belgium),  began his youth career with Standard Liège at ten years old.

He joined Standard Liège in 1977 and played there 240 matches until 1986. He won with Standard Liège in Belgian First Division 1981–82, 1982–83 ; Belgian Cup 1980–81 and Belgian Supercup 1981, 1983.

He joined Mechelen in 1986 and played there 263 matches until 1994. He won with Mechelen the Belgian First Division 1988–89; Belgian Cup: 1986–87 ; UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup 1987–88 and European Super Cup 1988.

He won the Award IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper in 1994 ; Belgian Golden Shoe 1987,1989 and Belgian Goalkeeper of the Year 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 also the FIFA World Cup Yashin Award 1994 ; Best European Goalkeeper 1994 and  FIFA World Cup All-Star Team 1994.

He joined Benfica in 1994 and played there 147 matches until 1999. He won with Benfica in Taça de Portugal 1995–96.

In the Belgian national football team he played 58 matches, keeping 25 clean sheets from 1979 until 1994. He runner-up UEFA European Championship 1980.

Manager PREUDHOMME

With Standard Liège, in two periods (2000-2002) and (2006-2008), he won Belgian Pro League 2007–08 and the  award Belgian Professional Manager of the Year 2007–08.

In Gent from 2008 until 2010, he won Belgian Cup 2009–10.

With Twente from 2010 until 2011, he won KNVB Cup 2010–11 ; Johan Cruyff Shield 2010 and Rinus Michels Award Manager of the year 2010–11.

In Al-Shabab FC from 2011 until 2013, he won Saudi Professional League: 2011–12;  Guy Thys Award 2012 and Saudi Arabia Manager of the Year 2012.

With Club Brugge from 2013 until 2017, he won Belgian Pro League: 2015–16 ; Belgian Cup: 2014–15 and Belgian Super Cup 2016. He won award Belgian Professional Manager of the Year 2014–15, 2015–16.

He returned to Standard Liège from 2018 to now.
