REAL - ATLETICO : THE RECORD

Most common one-nation rivalries in European competitions

Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, having been drawn into one pair in the round of 16 of the Champions League 2024-25, jointly set a new record.
This is the first pair from the same country in the history of European club tournaments to play against each other in 7 different ties.
The first time they met was in the semi-finals of the 1958-59 European Cup. And the last time before the current case, in the 2018 Super Cup. It was also the only occasion in the rivalry with Atlético winners of tie. Real won the the previous 5.
The English pair Chelsea vs Liverpool previously shared the record with the Madrid duo (6 ties).
All such couples that have met 3 times or more are listed here. A season is designated by the year it ends. Below is the tournament stage.
