IFFHS CONTINENTAL STATS - CHAN DAY 9
Picture : Ryan Ogam and Kenya impressive !
Amazing Kenya are second quarter finalists.
The Harambe Stars got their quarterfinals ticket 24 hours after another CHAN 2024 co-hosts, Tanzania had showed the way. The Stars shone brightly in the skies over the Moi International Sports Center picking a bonus in their show of acme and fighting spirit against Morocco. To have been reduced to ten men after a VAR check on Chrispine Erambo's brutal play just before the half earned him a red card, and rendering superb Morocco impotent was simply remarkable. The card was brandished five minutes after the 40th minute cracker by Ryan Oyam for 1/0.. Morocco's claim to a penalty ten minutes into resumption was at odds with the result of a VAR check. The North Africans did sweat it out in a bid to bounce back even scoring a 4:1 ratio ball possession but were repeatedly stopped by the brilliant goalkeeper Byrne Omondi whose performance logically earned him the mvp. With two wins and a draw Kenya mathematically qualify for the quarterfinals.
Away at the Nyayo National Stadium it was forbidden for any of the other two group A mates to lose. At take off the Palancas Negras of Angola descended on the Chipolopolo of Zambia with willful impunity only short of goals. But as the ensuing pendulum movement characterized the entire half, Zambia's Chongo Kabaso found the net on 35 minutes only to be ruled by the referee as illicit. The half, more physical than technical ended in a 0/0 situation. Ten minutes into resumption Marquez Afonso's effort was stifled by the excellent Zambia keeper, Francis Mwanza. However, the recurrent to-and-fro's and their occompanying misses were harshly stopped on 73 minutes with the opener by Dominic Chanda who cleanly connected Kelvin Kampamba's indirect free kick. The celebration was short-lived lasting only six minutes before versatile Angolan Joao Chingando Manha tied from a Joao Muanha assist. Seven minutes later, the same pair produced the same mechanical contrivance for a brace to the credit of Joao Chingando Manha who would be voted mvp at full time.
The fixtures South Africa vs Guinea and Uganda vs Niger are scheduled for this Monday.
