Central Africa Republic Out!

Their 0/2 defeat at the hands of Madagascar this Wednesday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam means they have no point in their accounts and therefore cannot qualify irrespective of the results of their next and last game. Central Africa gave the false impression to be ready for the kill in the game played in an empty stadium as Dmitry Kogbeto made the first incursion early into operations. That move seemed to haunt the rest of the first half which thereafter was characterized  by a multiplicity of squandered goalscoring opportunities. In that 7th appearance between the two teams with an edge for Central Africa, Madagascar sought to improve on their H2H. Patrick Harisson found the net on 52 minutes but the goal was not validated because his hand had helped in the process. Some ten minutes to full time, Toky Roko quickly made up for failure to score moments earlier by hammering a bullet past keeper Stephane Abimala from a Manda Hasina assist. Six minutes later, Lalaina Nomena made it 2/0 to cap Malagasy effort and victory. As the Central Africa Republic retire with nothing to duplicate of the performance that had seen them eliminate Cameroon to qualify for CHAN 2024 Malagasy keeper Michel Ramandimbisoa basked in the glory of the mvp award.

In the second game, Mauritania picked the second quarterfinal ticket by edging 10-man Burkina Faso 1/0. Before the game, both sides had  a victory and a defeat to their credit, but the later had a one-goal advantage. It was therefore predictable that the match would be tough and tight. Mauritanian captain Ahmed Morlaye spun the ball against the upright shortly before Burkina be bicycle kick landed in the keeper's custody. But then the worse fell on Burkina Faso when a 38th minute VAR check confirmed hard tackle by Abdoulaye Toure on Ahmed Morlaye to take red. In the 9th minute of the first half stoppage time a VAR check confirmed foul on El Mami Tetah by Khalifa Nikiema would be sanctioned by a penalty. Alassane Diop gave the keeper no chance, 1/0. 10-man Burkina Faso put in their very best but their 80th minute ultimate chance to bounce back was denied by the goalkeeper whose reflex kept Abdoul Baguian toiling in emotional pain. Mauritanian forward El Mami Tetah was voted mvp.

Morocco vs Zambia and Angola vs DR Congo are on bill this Thursday.
