IFFHS STATS – ASIAN WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS
- Qatar and Saudi Arabia secured both their qualification to the World Cup 2026 yesterday after winning their game in the Asian qualifying.
- It was the first time that Qatar (they lost all 3 Group stage games in the 2022 tournament), has advanced through qualification. They defeated the United Arab Emirates.
- Saudi Arabia, which will stage the 2034 World Cup, will appear for the 7th time in a World Cup final stage next summer in USA/Canada/Mexico. THey made their debut in 1994.
- Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, fired by Spain just two days before the start of the 2018 tournament, has now the chance with Qatar to participate at his first World Cup.
- The UAE, second of the Group, will play Iraq in the November playoff.
- Firas Al Buraikan scored two important goals in Indonesia , allowing Saudi Arabia to the best chances before the last game.
- Saudi Arabia got the draw it needed vs Irak to win the Group B and the qualification for the World Cup 2026 .
- Herve Renard will participate at his third consecutive World Cup final stage ! 2018 with Morocco, 2022 with Saudi Arabia and 2026 again with Saudi Arabia !
