ANOTHER GOAL FOR LIEKE MARTENS
Netherlands playmaker Lieke Martens has proved winning can become a habit with her successful selection as the 2017 World’s Best Woman Playmaker .
Lieke Martens’s life completely changed after winning the European Championships with the Netherlands on home soil last summer. The 24 years old player , who joined the FC Barcelona this summer, was voted best player of the tournament and won later the UEFA and FIFA Women’s Player of the Year Award as well. The offensive football of the Netherlands team was represented by Lieke Martens, who stood out with her technical skills, speedy dribbles and excellent teamwork.
Last year’s winner Dzsenifer Marozsan, who has been in the Top 5 since the first rankings in 2012, was the natural favourite this year because of her exceptionnal success with Olympique Lyon, but Euro and the success of Martens changed the picture.
The IFFHS voters from 91 countries all over the World voted 165 points for Martens, relegating Marozsan to second place with 98 points, followed by Marta and Lloyd.
