ANATOLIY TRUBIN THE THIRD

Trubin, the third goalkeeper to score in UCL from open play

Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin became yesterday only the third goalkeeper in Champions League history to score from open play, following the Sinan Bolat’s feat in 2009 and Ivan Provedel’s in 2023. In each case, it was a headed goal.
The Ukrainian goalie netted in an epic 4-2 win over Real Madrid in 98th minute to send Jose Mourinho's side into the Champions League play-offs.

*Overall, Trubin is the fifth different goalkeeper to score a Champions League goal, including also Jörg Butt and Vincent Enyeama who did it from spot kicks.
Butt remains the only one among custodians to score multiple UCL goals: 3, all for different German teams and all against the same opposition (Juventus).

*Trubin is also the third goalkeeper to score against Real Madrid in an official match, after:
Carlos Fenoy (Celta, La Liga) in 1976 (he missed a penalty and finished it off after a rebound),
Toni Prats (Betis, La Liga) in 2000 (from a direct free kick).
