IFFHS AWARDS – THE WORLD’S BEST REFEREE 2018 : NESTOR PITANA (ARGENTINA) 


 

PRESENTATION

 

Nestor Fabian Pitana, born 17 June 1975 in Corpus, is an Argentine Referee who has the privilege to take in charge the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final between France and Croatia in Moscow. 

He began his Referee career in the Argentine Primera Division in 2007, where he directed 269 matches since the beginning, and also 70 other games in the national competitions. He became FIFA listed in 2010, and was appointed to referee since ten years 26 FIFA matches, with the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil (4 matches) and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia (5 matches).

In Russia, he became the second Referee in the History (after another Argentine Horacio Elizondo in 2006) to take in charge the opening game and the Final in the same tournament. He was crowned this year 2018 as the WORLD’S BEST REFEREE by IFFHS with a large advance.

Nestor Pitana refereed also Copa America matches (2015) and more than 50 Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana matches in the Conmebol. HE continued his career with a new chalennge, the FIFA World Cup 2022.
