PRESENTATION
Sari Van Veenendaal, born 3 April 1990 in Nieuwegein, is currently the Dutch Goalkeeper of Atlético de Madrid and of the Netherlands National Team. She holds the World titles of The FIFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year, The FIFA Golden Glove and the IFFHS Award of The World’s Best Woman Goalkeeper 2019 !
She began her youth career in Vreeswijk before signing in Utrecht where Sari became a professional player in 2007. She won there the KNVB Women’s Cup 2009/10 and moved to FC Twente. She was successfull with Twente (from 2010 to 2015) winning the BeNe League twice (2012/13, 2013/14), the Eredevisie (2010/11) and the KNVB Women’s Cup (2014/15). She won her first cap with the senior National Team of Netherlands on 7 March 2011 at the Cyprus Cup. She was so part of the Team for the UEFA Euro 2013 and the FIFA World Cup 2015.
In 2015, Van Veenendaal signed for the English club of FC Arsenal in London. She won the FA Women’s Cup 2015/16 and two FA WSL Cups (2015, 2018), before joining Spain and Atlético de Madrid in July 2019.
Sari was part of the Netherlands national Team for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017, where her team won the Tournament ! She started all six matches in the competition and was named in the Top 11 of the Euro. She won also the Algarve Cup in 2018 and in 2019, Van Veenendaal (66 international caps until now) led the National Team to the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, losing only against USA. She won there the FIFA Golden Glove of the Best Goalkeeper of the World Cup and became also The BEST FIFA Goalkeeper and the Best IFFHS Goalkeeper of the Year !
