SOUTH AMERICA'S CLUB OF THE FIRST DECADE (2001 - 2010) - CA BOCA JUNIORS BUENOS AIRES (ARGENTINA)
Although the leading trio were not very sucessful in the final two years of the 1st Decade (2001-2010), their lead of points proved to be sufficient.
CA Boca Juniors Buenos Aires was crowned South America’s Club of the 1st Decade of the 21 Century, ahead of São Paulo FC and his local rival CA River Plate. South America’s Club of the 20th Century (1901-2000), CA Peñarol Montevideo (Uruguay), only made it to a disappointing 36th place. The best-placed club from Bolivia was Club Bolívar La Paz (39th) and for Venezuela Caracas FC (56th place).
Sao Paulo FC (2010) - Second in the Ranking
The “Top 100” comprised five Argentinian and four Brazilian clubs as well as the sixth-placed Club Nacional de Football Montevideo (Uruguay). But among the 16 top-placed clubs were eight Brazilians. Clubs from all
ten countries to the CONMEBOL belonging were represented in the “Top 100”.
CA River Plate (2008) - Third in the Ranking
The “Top 100” composed as following: Brazil (21 clubs), Colombia (16), Argentine (15), Chile (11), Peru (9), Paraguay (7), Equador (7), Uruguay (6), Bolivia (6), Venezuela (2). During the period 2001-2010 185 clubs achieved 150 or more points.
CA Boca Juniors honoured in Barcelona by IFFHS
CA Boca Juniors Buenos Aires was honoured as America’s Club of the 1st Decade on occasion of the World Football Gala 2012 in Barcelona with a Certificate and a Trophy.
