FC CINCINNATI HIRE JAAP STAM AS NEW HEAD COACH
The Legendary former Manchester united defender Jaap Stam has been named the new FC CINCINNATI manager, the club announced on Thursday, May 21.
The 47 year old ex-Dutch international who played as a center-back and was capped 67 times for his national team takes over the coaching reigns after replacing fellow Dutch native Ron Jans, who stepped down in the preseason after just six months on the job in the wake of an investigation surrounding a complaint made by the MLS players Association accusing Jans of making “extremely inappropriate comments”
Jaap stam had an illustrious playing career by starring for several top European clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lazio, Ac Milan and Ajax before retiring in October 2007. He won several club trophies and he was part of the Manchester united treble winning team of 1998/1999 season, including being voted as the best defender in the champions league on two occasions (1998/1999 and 1999/2000 seasons)
His previous coaching experiences were at PEC Zwolle in 2009 where he served as caretaker manager before joining Ajax as Assistant manager and then as the reserve team manager (Jong Ajax) from 2014 to 2016. He coached Reading in the English Championship from June 2016 to March 2018, guiding them to the playoffs in his first season and then re-joined PEC Zwolle as manager from December 2018 to May 2019. His final job was a short stint at Feyenood which ended with his resignation on October 28, 2019.
