FEMALE AVOCATE, WRITER, BESTINE KAZADI PRESIDENT OF A.S. VITA CLUB.
57-year-old female advocate, prolific writer, and activist Bestine Kazadi has become the 36th President of the legendary Association Sportive Vita Club of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, after defeating challenger, Diomi Ndongala in the Wednesday, July 1, 2020 elections to determine the successor of Gabriel Amisi Tango Fort who quit in May after 13 years of stewardship. The winner tallied 38 votes as against 32 when the 72-member electorate voted during the Extraordinary Elective General Assembly of the club. By staging the historic tour de force, Mrs. Kazadi puts back her family name in the administrative monogamy of one of that country’s most popular and most affluent clubs as her late father, Pierre Kazadi Tshishishi, was once board chair of A.S. Vita Club.
The new and historical female President, Bestine Kazadi Ditabala, mother of a 22-year-old daughter, and born to a Belgian mother, is a practicing barrister in Kinshasa, and also coordinator of the Congolese Studies Program, FRP.
As a writer, she published an anthology of poems in the collections, Congo Words for Pain in November 2006, Infinitely Woman in 2009, and features in a compilation of six Congolese writers entitled, New Kinshasa, and later, Course of Life.Bestine Kazadi is also author of the lyrics of The Hymn of International Women for Peace rendered in song by the young organist, Rosin Ngandu; song, she says, symbolizes the struggle for peace.
As an activist, Bestine Kazadi is President of the Congolese Civil Society Women(SOCIFEC Asbl) network that is working for “The Leadership and Participation of Congolese women in decision-making and power.”
This first female President of the Rotary Club in Kinshasa is expected to embrace the challenge that comes with becoming the first female President of a Congolese club, let alone A.S. Vita Club, winners of the 1973 African Cup of champions Clubs, and also finalists in same in 1981, losing to Cameroon’s Canon of Yaounde. Mrs. Kazadi’s leadership will definitely be expected to give the club a report card that should improve on the current appearances achievement of 14 Champions Clubs Cup, 6 CAF Cup Winners’ Cup, 3 CAF Confederations Cup, and 2 CAF Cup.
