DREAM TEAM - DEFENDERS
This year 2020, the BALLON D'OR was cancelled because of the COVID 19 but France-Football, the magazine of World Football, decided to make an Operation DREAM TEAM, considering in each position (1-3-4-3) the Best players of the History. A difficult work because of the many great players that the World Football has seen since so many years. (since 1950 we have more informations and statistics about the football). Before it was a great work that the IFFHS has done and continue to publish.
The IFFHS has taken in consideration the nominees in each position of the BALLON D'OR DREAM TEAM and will give the informations about the Awards and distinctions of the nominees by IFFHS in the last years. After the Goalkeepers, today the 3 Defenders.
- Giacinto FACCHETTI (Italy) was ranked 42th at the IFFHS Century World Player Ranking and he received also the IFFHS Award for THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 1999 with Inter Milan as EXCO member.
- Paolo MALDINI (Italy) received the IFFHS Award of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING with AC Milan in 2003
- Marcelo (Brazil) received the IFFHS Award of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 2014 and 2017 with Real Madrid
- Roberto CARLOS (Brazil) received the IFFHS Award of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 2000 and 2002 with Real Madrid
- Roberto CARLOS (Brazil) and Paolo MALDINI (Italy) were chosen by IFFHS to be part of THE LEGEND PLAYERS List PHASE 2.
- Franco BARESI (Italy) was ranked 33th at the IFFHS 20th CENTURY WORLD PLAYER Ranking and won the IFFHS Award of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 1995 with Milan AC
- Franz BECKENBAUER (Germany) was ranked THIRD at the IFFHS 20th CENTURY WORLD PLAYER Ranking and was crowned by IFFHS, THE UNIVERSEL GENIUS OF WORLD FOOTBALL for his career as Player, Coach and President !
- Bobby MOORE (England) was ranked 24th at the IFFHS 20th CENTURY WORLD PLAYER Ranking.
- Sergio RAMOS (Spain) won the IFFHS Awards of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 2014 and 2017 with Real Madrid.
- Franz BECKENBAUER, Franco BARESI, and Ronald KOEMAN were chosen by IFFHS to be part of THE LEGEND PLAYERS List Phase 1 for the two first and Phase 2 for Koeman.
- Guiseppe BERGOMI (Italy) won the IFFHS Award 1998 of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING with Inter Milan.
- Philipp LAHM (Germany) won the IFFHS Award of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 2013 with FC Bayern München.

- Carlos ALBERTO (Brazil) was chosen by IFFHS to be part of THE LEGEND PLAYERS List Phase 1.
