Cameroon dismiss head coach three months to the Total African Nations Championship.
The Sports and Physical Education Minister, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi made public the decision at the end of yesterday’s evaluation meeting held to assess the preparation of the national Intermediate Lions for the competition. The preparedness of the team was declared deeply wanting, and so experienced trainer with well-known credentials, Martin Ndtoungou Mpile was appointed to take over from Yves Clément Arroga as head coach. The first deputy to Arroga, Emmanuel Doumbe Bosso was maintained in his position, while David Pagou who trains the Cameroon 2021 African Champions League flag bearers , PWD Bamenda was brought in as second deputy. Keepers trainer, Clément Assimba survived the hurricane.
Cameroonians, in their numbers, have reacted favourably to the Minister’s decision, and have seen their fears assuaged three months to the Championship the country will be hosting from January 16thto February 7th, 2021. Meanwhile, a fans club of the team is clamouring for the integration of the squad of three former Indomitable Lions, Alexandre Song, Jacques Zoua and Jean II Makoun who are reported to be without clubs and are currently in the country. However, that can only be possible if the players in question enroll in teams of the domestic league whose new season is around the corner.
Trinidad and Tobago Court of Appeal rules in favour of FIFA
FIFA welcomes the decision of the Trinidad and Tobago Court of Appeal, which ruled that the former leadership of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) had acted unlawfully by appealing to a local court to contest the appointment of a normalisation committee for the TTFA. Among other relevant legal considerations, the Court of Appeal stressed that in accordance with the TTFA statutes and the FIFA statutes, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) is the proper forum to resolve such dispute.
The ruling, which has been served to the parties yesterday, fully recognises the established global football governance structure, which relies on the CAS as the exclusive internationally recognised tribunal for the resolution of sports-related disputes.
A normalisation committee was installed in Trinidad and Tobago by a decision of the FIFA Council after it was established that the former leadership of the TTFA had engaged in various acts of serious mismanagement. The former leadership of TTFA lodged a claim before the local Courts in Trinidad and Tobago in order to contest the decision of the FIFA Council. Yesterday’s decision of the Court of Appeal overturns the first-instance decision of the local Court and concludes that, should the former leadership of TTFA wish to dispute the appointment of the normalisation committee it should appeal to CAS.
Samuel Eto’o appointed Roving Ambassador by Chad President Idriss Deby Itno.
Cameroon legendary striker and IFFHS legend player, Samuel Eto’o Fils has been appointed Roving Ambassador for the Republic of Chad by that country’s President, Field Marshal Idriss Deby Itno. The information carried on the official Facebook page of the Chadian Government General Secretariat(SGG) indicates that the Cameroonian was appointed to that position of responsibility on 22 October 2020 alongside Chadian national, Nair Abakar.
The appointments came one week after an audience granted Eto’o by the Chadian leader during which both men had discussed aspects on the development of football in that country. At the end of the meeting, Eto’o had also announced that he was offering training opportunities to fifteen young Chadians in the Douala-based Kadji Sports Academy where he himself had been brought up as an infant in the football nursery.
It would be recalled that the man from whom Eto’o once announced to have drawn football inspiration, Albert Roger Milla, another IFFHS legend player, was appointed Cameroon Roving Ambassador at the end of his football career in the mid-nineties by President Paul Biya.
