IMBROGLIO IN CAMEROON
First of all, the president of the professional league chaired a meeting of 20 of the 35 clubs that make up the Cameroon professional leagues 1 and 2 in an Extraordinary General Assembly during which three resolutions were adopted, before he went on to fix the debut of the season for November 1st. But it now appears that the season inaugural match between Panthère Sportive du Ndé and Cotonsport Garoua scheduled for the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium will no longer hold because of two major happenings.
Firstly, 18 clubs of the professional league have met in Yaounde today and voted to dissolve the Cameroon Professional League. They argue that article 87 of the statutes of the league gives them the power to do so; which article says 2/3rds of the membership of the General Assembly summoned to dissolve the league can effectively do so.
Secondly, the football federation has scheduled pre-season refresher courses for referees and their assistants of women’s football to run from October 30th to November 1st, and for referees of the professional league from November 2nd to 4th.
Meanwhile, sources close to the federation say a meeting of its Executive Committee is scheduled to meet in the days ahead to acknowledge the dissolution of the league and proceed to creating a commission to organize the new football season.
All this is happening as CAF inspectors are in the country sizing up readiness to host the African Nations Championships slated for January 16th to February 9th 2021, as well as progress of work ahead of the 2022 Total African Cup of Nations.
