The World’s Highest Scoring Defender 2020: James Tavernier

James Tavernier, a right back of Glasgow Rangers, became the best goal-scorer amongst defenders in world top football in 2020. He has scored 17 goals including 11 in Scottish Premier League, 5 in Europa League and 1 in national League Cup.
What is most amazing in his story, he had zero goals at his tally yet on 28 August. Next day, he has scored the first and then started to make one after another, netting in almost every game – so he left eventually all others well behind! To score such a solid amount (for the defender), he actually took only the last third of 2020!
Tavernier hasn’t yet played a single game for national team (England) despite his scoring feats. For 5 and half seasons in Rangers, he scored 63 goals in total.

The most prominent in the ranking below, Sergio Ramos, became the 2nd highest scoring defender of the year.
A Moroccan left back Mohammed Aziz takes the third position. He is the only defender in 2020 who made a hat-trick. On January 2, he scored all three goals for his team RSB Berkane against Khourigba (3:1)!
