“Kings of Hat-Tricks” in XXI century year-wise
Here we publish the list of players to score most hat-tricks for each year of the current century separately. All top-level games worldwide are taken in consideration.
Two players won the title “king of hat-tricks” more than once: of course, Lionel Messi (4 times, in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018) and Cristiano Ronaldo (3 times, in 2011, 2015 and 2016).
In the cases of equal number of hat-tricks overall, the following tie-breakers are used: 1) hat-tricks in international games (ICC+NT), 2) in national team (NT), 3) in national league (NL), 4) number of total goals scored in the hat-trick games, 5) strength of the league (according IFFHS league ranking).
The right columns indicate the “size” of hat-tricks: number of games with 3, 4, 5 and 6 goals.
