All-time best top division goal-scorers: Bangladesh (Part 9)
Top-tier league in Bangladesh was officially established in 1948 while the country (then East Pakistan) was yet under Pakistani control. Its first name was Dhaka League; then, in 1992, the league was renamed to Dhaka Premier Division League.
In 2007, the B. League was launched as the country's new top-tier and first ever professional football league, currently named Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Here we present 5 all-time best goal-scorers of these two top flight leagues (Dhaka League from 1948 to 2006 and BPL 2007 up to now) combined. Only these 5 players have reached 100 top-tier goals.
The historical record holder is Chinghla Mong Chowdhury Mari, the legendary player, considered to be the best East Pakistani footballer of all times, and one of the few to play for the Pakistan national team (and even captained it).
Mari played in the top flight from 1951 to 1969. According to the sources of that era, he has scored 234 league goals. But in a moment of turbulence (when Bangladesh fought for independence in the early 1970s), the records of the old championships were lost. For this reason, Mari's goals are now considered as unregistered, and his record unrecognized.
Over the era of independence (since 1971), the player with most goals is Sheikh Mohammad Aslam (177 goals between 1977 and 1996). He is official all-time best scorer of the top flight.
As for the period of the current league (BPL), i.e. since 2007, its best scorer is a Nigerian Sunday Chizoba (132 goals). He is also the only abroad player in the list below. Currently he doesn’t play in the league.
The club Abahani Dhaka was previously named Abahani Krira Chakra.
